Film/Technical Support
Modern digital cameras and computer technology have opened a door for producing quality video for prices that were unthinkable just a few years ago. When Moody Science Films were produced, everything had to be done with film cameras which ran real celluloid strips requiring extremely expensive cameras, film and editing studios. All of that has changed! Now, with a quality Prosumer Digital Video Camcorder which costs less than $10,000, really quality video can be recorded on MiniDV cassettes which cost about $5 apiece. Even the new High Definition Video format is economically within reach. Together with the DVD distribution medium, we have available today a means of making a significant statement to those who need to hear an alternative to the evolution myth. This offers to us an amazing opportunity to invest the “talents” that God has put at our disposal for the advance of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
CTM currently owns a Panasonic DVX100A Digital Video Camera and uses Avid Liquid Edition on a Dell Precision Work Station with twin Xeon Processors and 2 Terabytes of external storage. Four years ago this was the cat’s meow. Now it is definitely ho-hum! As God supplies our needs, we will be looking to upgrade equipment and editing platform for the needs of producing a real quality video product.
More importantly than equipment, CTM is seeking the right film/technical partners to join with us in this ambitious endeavor.
Please pray with us that we will find exactly the right people to help us with the following tasks:
Director
Script Writer
Videographer
Audio
Lighting
Animation Producer
Editor
Legal Consultant
Some of these tasks we will undoubtedly do ourselves and most will be on a limited time basis. The most important immediate need is for a Director. If you are a born again Christian, a convinced young earth creationist, interested/available and qualified to help with one or more of these tasks, please contact me! Volunteer help would be gratefully considered, although we fully expect to pay the right qualified partners as the project becomes funded. We are praying that things will begin to come together by fall of 2007 or spring of 2008.
Some will ask, “Why not translate the excellent DVDs put out by creation organizations like Answers In Genesis and others?”
Our experience has taught us that translating a video version of a Power Point Presentation into another language is not a wise investment for several reasons:
1) The English language is one of the most efficient languages in terms of number of words necessary. What takes 10 words in English frequently takes 14 words in most other languages. This means that a filmed segment showing a speaker rambling on for a minute or more in English will require that the translated version either leave out some information or add extra video clips to cover the time needed. Neither of these options is very desirable.
2) It is incredibly boring to watch an English speaking mouth while listening to a dubbed in translation in another language, especially if that speech segment drags on for more than about 10 – 15 seconds! Translated subscript versions are worse because the viewer ends up reading the film rather than watching it!
3) Most of the DVD products currently available on this subject are information rich with the speaker being the motion part of the film. Unless the viewer is a highly motivated fan of the creation subject, there is little appeal that will captivate passive viewers. This problem is much worse when the film is translated and dubbed into a foreign language.
